7th Annual Washington State Zine Contest!

Sara Peté, co-manager of the Washington Center for the Book, at Lil’ Olympia Zine Fest.

The 7th Annual Washington State Zine Contest is open and we can’t wait to check out the creations that will roll in from locations around the state. The deadline is Feb. 25, 2022 so zine creators of all ages have plenty of time to create a zine on any theme and mail it in to us or drop it off at the Washington State Library.

Washington Center for the Book co-manager Sara Peté recently had the pleasure of attending the Lil’ Olympia Zine Fest (Olympia Zine Fest 5.5) where she handed out posters, handbills, submission guidelines, and entry forms for this year’s contest. If you would like copies of any these items emailed to you, email Sara Peté. If you are a librarian or member of a community organization that would like some help bringing this contest to your library patrons and community members, please do the same.

The beautiful artwork for this year’s contest was once again created by Olympia Timberland Library’s Chris Sabatini who chose to feature marmot buddies enjoying zines in this year’s design.

Chris Sabatini, Olympia Timberland Library, holds up the poster he created.

Aggie Burstein is a librarian at the Olympia Timberland Library and an organizer of the Olympia Zine Fest.

Physical copies of the winning zines will be added to the collections at the Washington State LibraryThe Seattle Public Library, and the Timberland Regional Library.  We will also be digitizing these zine so that people across our state (and beyond!) can have access to these wonderful zines created by Washingtonians.
